F- Find Your Passion
Spoiler alert: Your passion may or may not provide food, shelter, and clothing for you and your family. Don't get that part twisted. This should not deter us from finding our passion.
Find and MAINTAIN what makes you feel alive.
What makes you feel alive? What speaks to your soul? What brings you internal joy?
As important, how do you maintain your passion? How do you keep feeding your soul? How do you continue to keep the flame of internal joy vibrant and strong? These are questions we should ask ourselves.
I'm one of the lucky ones. I knew at an early age that I wanted to be an educator and coach. I knew I wanted to help people. I have been fortunate to follow and maintain my passion while providing for myself and eventually my family. There are others out there, but in my experience there are a large number of people not in that position.
Some do not have or have not found that fortune. Some people go to an office and work on a computer for 40 hours a week. Some are line cooks, garbage collectors, or accountants. Some people are contractors or lawyers, finding financial success. What we are passionate about may not directly align with what puts food on the table. I feel it is important to recognize this, own it, and proceed as needed.
Go to work. Do your best in the workspace you find yourself in. But don't let that deter you from finding your passion. Find what makes you feel alive. Find what speaks to your soul. Find what brings you internal joy. Find ways to maintain your passion.
This may be reading a great novel. It may be going fishing or taking pictures. It may be playing guitar in a band. It may be volunteering at a nursing home. It may be starting your own business to help educate and help people (like Wolff Learning!).
If you are not sure what your passion is, keep trying new things. Get off the porch and take healthy risks. You will find something. Don't stop. If we don't, our mental health may suffer.
Get after it out there. You got this.
