There are times when we face situations and worry that we haven't adequately prepared our leaders, teams, students, or organizations for the task ahead.
As a leader, people are counting on you.
The spotlight is on, and the audience is watching.
Our students look to us for guidance.
Our organization expects positive results.
Feeling some fear is perfectly normal; it can even be beneficial. It shows that you care about setting your people up for success, that you want your team to succeed, that you want your students to grasp the concepts, and that you aim to represent your organization well.
Don’t shy away from stepping into these situations. Channel that fear into motivation. Here are some strategies to help you rest easy at night, knowing you've done your best:
- Stay true to your values—keep your vision and mission front and center.
- Prepare thoroughly—do your research and focus on what you can control.
- Cultivate a strong work ethic—tackle manageable tasks with your ultimate goal in mind.
- Be aware of your environment—use your emotional intelligence to meet the needs of the moment.
- Find solutions—leverage all available resources to ensure successful outcomes.
Following these steps has helped me feel at ease with whatever results may come. Celebrate your successes and learn from setbacks. Most importantly, take those lessons and keep moving forward.
It’s okay to feel fear, but don’t let it prevent you from stepping into challenging situations again.
You got this!
