I recently attended a PTA organized event for William Prescott Elementary in the Scranton School District. The purpose of the event was to celebrate the principal who served the students of the Hill Section of Scranton for approximately 20 years.
The PTA organized "pie in the face" day was an excellent event. Students were randomly selected to put a whipped cream "pies" in the faces of the outgoing principal and current teachers who volunteered their time for the kids.
The students had a great experience. They sang songs. They smiled. They laughed. They encouraged their classmates. It was truly a success. The students and staff "pied" their respects to the outgoing principal while welcoming their new leader.
The PTAs and teachers who organize these events deserve credit for finding their passion to help kids. They deserve credit for finding ways to make these team and culture building events a reality. The principals, teachers, school board members, counselors, and district leaders deserve credit for being "team players", finding their passion to bring people together. Each of these events brings a smile to my face.
I would like to give a special shout out to the PTA of William Prescott Elementary for organizing this most recent event. I believe it is the first for the school. They "got off the porch" and took a healthy risk. They found a way to make it happen (with the help of the good people of Whittier Elementary!). Thanks to the maintenance staff at Prescott for the set up and clean up too! Admirable effort by all involved.
Great job by all involved for following their passion and finding a way. These events make a difference.
P.S- If you ever have the opportunity to take a pie to the face, make sure you have a change of clothes and be ready to clean off immediately!
